She married Fred "Sandy" Hackett on March 30, 1946 in Charleston and they were married 67 years prior to his death on November 20, 2013. Kathryne is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and their families: Shirley (Larry) Duckworth of East Alton, IL, Nina Smitley of Charleston, Don (Mickie) Lawyer of Charleston, Susie (Steve) Johnson of Westfield, IL, Jim Hackett of Westfield, Shirley (Lawrence) McKinney of Westfield, Mary Kay (Farrell) Smitley of Charleston, Jerry (Tami) Hackett of Westfield, Bob (Mary) Hackett of Kansas, IL; and a cousin, Betty Craig of Mattoon, who became more like a sister after she went to live with Kathryne's family as a young girl. Kathryne was also preceded in death by a brother, John King; a sister, Narine Lawyer; a niece, Kay Alexander; and nephews, Harold Hackett, John King, J.C. Hackett and Carol Lawyer. Kate was a longtime member of the Whetstone Baptist Church. She worked alongside her husband Sandy, on their family farm located south of Charleston, and created a home filled with warmth and love for them and all who visited. Aromas from a wonderfully prepared meal could often be detected coming from her kitchen as she was a marvelous cook. She was also an excellent seamstress, often making her own clothes as well as for family members. She often enjoyed time spent in her flower gardens and she and Sandy looked forward to many evenings spent with friends and family enjoying a game of cards. Aunt Kate was truly special to her nieces and nephews and they along with their families are blessed with a multitude of fond and happy memories.
