Karen Irene Butler's Obituary
ASHMORE, IL - Karen Irene Butler, age 76 of Ashmore, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 4, 2016 while in the comforting presence of her family at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Scott Sims and Pastor Shine Doughty officiating. Pastor Curt Weaver will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery located east of Kansas, IL. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to her family in care of Jim Butler. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Karen was born February 29, 1940 in Paris, IL to the late Leland and Louise (Cornwell) Marrs. She married James C. Butler on August 29, 1958 in Charleston and they recently celebrated 58 years of marriage and friendship. Left to cherish their many wonderful memories are her husband Jim of Ashmore; 3 daughters, Julie Lefever and husband Lester "Skip" of York, PA, Angie Rhodes of Charleston and Gretchen Elliott and husband Mark of Mattoon, IL; 13 grandchildren, Lester (Amy) Lefever IV, Jason (Michelle) Lefever, Sarah (Michael) Searles. Clarissa Butler, Jesse James Butler, Casey Butler, Colton Butler, Zoey Rhodes, Noah Rhodes, Bryant McCrate, Ashton McCrate, Terrence McCrate, Aubrey (Matthew) Hayes; 9 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jeff Marrs of the Chicago area and Danny Marrs of Kansas, IL; and a daughter-in law Cathy Butler of Charleston. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Butler; and two brothers, Ralph and Jimmy Marrs. Karen was a 1958 graduate of Kansas High School. She was employed by R.R. Donnelley & Sons before accepting a position with the Charleston Carnegie Public Library in their children's library section. She was a woman of faith and was always involved with various church activities and ministries. She was currently a member of East Harrison Street Church of God. Karen was blessed with a God given artistic ability. She was adept at all sorts of needlework and pottery but was most passionate about her drawing and water color painting. Many of her creations have been gifted to family and friends. Karen was truly a loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose love for family was exemplified on a daily basis. Karen's family and friends are grateful for the blessings of many wonderful times shared which has gifted them with many treasured memories. Click to view Karen's memorial video.
