Judith Ann Barr's Obituary
Judith Ann Barr, age 81, of Charleston, IL, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She was born on February 17, 1944, in Charleston, IL, to William Mino and Josephine (Cohoon) Cougill. On December 31, 1964, she married the love of her life, Gary Lynn Barr. They shared 50 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on October 22, 2015.
Judy is survived by her two children, Kari (Andrew) Nutt of Bettendorf, IA, and Kirby (Katie) Barr of Charleston; four grandchildren, Kelly (Alyssa) Barr, Gunner Barr, Emily (Nick) Mirabito, and Kayla Nutt; and three siblings, Jerry (Kay) Cougill of Elkhart, IN, Steve (Pam) Cougill of Charleston, and Janet (Brent) Cougill McCullough of Charleston. In addition to her husband, Gary, she was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Dale Brent II.
A graduate of Charleston High School, Judy went on to take college courses at Eastern Illinois University. She worked for many years as a kind and dedicated secretary at the Coles County Public Health Department, where she made lasting friendships and served her community with compassion.
Judy was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1388 and enjoyed playing bingo there with friends. In her earlier years, she liked bowling and always looked forward to a good movie. She especially loved watching her grandchildren play sports and rarely missed a game. Judy also valued the time spent with her church community and was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Burial will take place at Liberty Cemetery in Hutton Township, IL.
