Joanne I. Eaton's Obituary
Joanne I. Eaton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Willow Breeze Hospice House surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 8, 1932 in Valier, Illinois to Elmer and Nadine Murray. On August 27, 1950 she married the love of her life, Darrell Eaton. They shared 62 beautiful years together until his passing on March 13, 2012.
Joanne is survived by her two children: Jerry “Jake” Eaton and Kevin Eaton of Charleston. She also has two beautiful granddaughters: Lindsay (Travis) Howell and Kenadie (Caden) Price, both of Mattoon; and 3 great-grandchildren, Jaxtyn and Memphys Howell and Sterling Price. In addition to her husband and oldest son, Kirk, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and brother.
In the late 1960s, Joanne obtained her Broker’s License and worked part time at the “Eatonize” family business. She was a faithful lifelong member of First Christian Church. Her greatest joy at church was teaching Sunday School for 25 years. She was a charter member of the former Zonta Club of Charleston, and the Charleston Homemaker Extension.
She had a very special group of friends called the “Lunch Bunch” who met weekly for over 20 years on Tuesdays for lunch. She also has a dear "forever friend" Shirley whom she has had for 45 years.
Joanne loved to sew, do needlework, read, paint ceramics, cook, and do crosswords. She also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together with her granddaughter, Lindsay.
Joanne will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon for the compassionate care and support they provided.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
