Jo Cougill's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Josephine Katherine Cougill, age 89 of Charleston, went to her heavenly home while in the presence of her loving family on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Charleston Rehab and Health Care Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services celebrating and honoring her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Tom Skinner and Reverend Roy Lineberry officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that memorials in her honor be made to the Charleston Providence Separate Baptist Church or to the Charleston Rehab and Health Care Center Comfort Care/Hospice Program. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.Jo was born June 6, 1921 in Willow Hill, Illinois a daughter of the late Carl C. and Sylvia Jane (Enlow) Cohoon. Her father died when she was quite young and her mother married Ed Braden who Jo loved and regarded as her father. Jo married William ""Mino"" Cougill on September 3, 1938 in Indiana and they shared forty-six wonderful years of marriage, friendship and family prior to his death on November 12, 1984. She is survived by her children, Judy Barr and husband Gary of Charleston, Janet McCullough and husband Brent of Charleston, Jerry Cougill and wife Kay (Stoltz) Cougill of Braidwood, Illinois, Steve Cougill and wife Pam of Charleston; eight grandchildren, Kari Nutt and husband Andy of Bettendorf, Iowa, Kirby Barr and wife Katie of Charleston, Kim (McCullough) Arthur and husband Doug of Mt. Zion, Illinois, Jill Windy and husband Matt of Elkhart, Indiana, Amanda Glasscock and husband Billy of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ryan Cougill of Prescott, Arizona, Grant Cougill and Abby Cougill, both of Charleston; ten great-grandchildren, Kelly and Gunner Barr, Emily and Kayla Nutt, Aiden, Austin and Brady Arthur, Ty, Jacob and Nathan Windy; three sisters, Viola Waggle, Iola Garner and husband Ernie and Sylvia Montgomery and husband Gene, all of Charleston; a brother, Bob Braden and wife Martha of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and her husband, Jo was preceded in death by a grandson, Dale Brent McCullough II; two brothers, Carl Cohoon and Jake Braden; a sister, Freda Warren; and her stepfather, Ed Braden and his children, Mary, Dorothy and Walter.Jo was a member of the Charleston Providence Separate Baptist Church where she was once actively involved in Ladies Aid as well as serving as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. She was previously a member of North Side Baptist Church in Charleston and was involved in various aspects of Women's Ministry. Her involvement with the Charleston Senior Center allowed her to pursue her love for various crafts and to share those talents with others. Many will also remember Jo as a long-time day care provider in the Charleston area.
