Jerry Dean Thomason's Obituary
Jerry D. "Bean" Thomason, age 58, of Charleston, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Charleston, IL. He was born on February 15, 1967, to Donald D. and Mary (Trader) Thomason in Charleston, IL. He married the love of his life, Kathy R. Hickman on August 9, 1986 at Salisbury Church in Hutton, IL.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Thomason of Charleston, IL; four children, Nick J. (Katie) Thomason, Amanda N. Thomason, Alyssa R. (Jacob) Sappington, and Jerod L. (Nici) Thomason all of Charleston, IL; six grandchildren, Esma Thomason, Oakley Coonce, Camden Sappington, Declan Sappington, Beckham Sappington, and Greyson Sappington; and three siblings, Chris (Lynn) Thomason of Charleston, IL, Sandy (Mike) Willison of Casey, IL, and Andy Thomason of Charleston, IL.. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Thomason.
Jerry was a 1985 graduate of Charleston High School. During his teen years he played guitar for a band called Kerygma. He attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer and business management. He worked at EIU as a computer programmer and later started working in IT for RexDon Inc. His role at RexDon grew, was promoted several times, and eventually bought the company.
Jerry's spiritual relationship with God was very important to him and sharing God's word was a lifelong passion. His favorite pastime was creating memories with his family. He was also very passionate about music. He was currently a guitarist and singer for the band 5 Mile Train and loved performing with his friends. Jerry enjoyed photography, University of Illinois basketball, playing pool, watching wildlife, hiking, and nature in general. Jerry was a member of Woodlawn Chapel Church and the Coles County Corvette Club.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27th, 2025 at Salisbury Church, 2190 County Highway 5, Charleston, IL, from 9 -11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Brock Ashley and Scott Sims, officiating at Salisbury Church in Charleston, IL.
