Jerald A. Pollard's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Jerald (Jerry) Alan Pollard, age 87 of Harlingen, Texas and formerly of Ashmore, Illinois, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 while at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. The Graveside Memorial Service honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Enon Cemetery located in Ashmore Township with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Masonic Services will be conducted by members and guests of the Ashmore Masonic Lodge #30 A.F. & A.M. The service will conclude with Military Services to be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. There will be no visitation. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Activity Fund. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Jerry was born on May 24, 1926 in Ashmore to the late Benjamin Frank and Corrine (Waters) Pollard. He was married to Rosella A. Wilson for many years and she preceded him in death in March of 2005. He is survived by two children, a son, Denny Pollard and wife Lori and a daughter, Sharon Updegraff and husband Rick, all of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Kyle Updegraff, Krissta Newby and husband Matt, Jennifer Pollard and boyfriend Tyler Horn, Nathan Pollard and girlfriend Kelsey Stark, Jordan Pollard, Leona Scott and husband Bill and Michelle Galbreath and husband Larry; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Catharine Cox and Jane Stingley and two brothers, Frank Pollard and Gene Pollard. Jerry was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Force serving in 1944. He enjoyed his chosen career of trucking and was a driver for Ecoff Trucking for 42 years. In addition he farmed the family farm near Ashmore for a number of years. He was a long-time member of Enon Baptist Church near Ashmore and also a member of the Moose and Elks organizations as well as a member of the Ashmore Masonic Lodge #30 A.F. & A.M. When he wasn't working Jerry enjoyed square dancing and after locating to Texas he attended various music jams as he enjoyed listening to the bands.
