Jeffery E. Cougill's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Jeffery Eugene Cougill, age 64 of Charleston, went to walk with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 while at Carle Foundation Hospital. The Visitation, to be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, will begin with a Prayer Vigil conducted by Father Braden Maher. The Funeral Liturgy, honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Father Braden Maher officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. Donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Catholic Charities and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Jeff was born and raised in Charleston, the son of Max and Mary (McClanahan) Cougill. He graduated Charleston High School in 1972 and attained his Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1976 from Eastern Illinois University. He worked at the family business, Bel-Aire Lanes later known as Charleston Lanes, and eventually ran the Trophy Shop that was located in the bowling alley. After completing necessary course work, Jeff went to work for the State of Illinois as a Certified Internal Auditor, often joking that he worked for the CIA. Jeff's only child was born from his marriage to Debbie Schmidt. He was later married to Rawlineh Rigos, who lives in California. Jeff is survived by his daughter, Alison Schoonover of Newton, Illinois; his parents, Max and Mary Cougill of Charleston; two grandchildren, Haylee Schoonover and Daxxon Jennings; his aunts, Imogene McClanahan of Charleston, Marjorie Giglione of Vancouver, Washington and Juanita McClanahan of Charlotte, North Carolina; along with several cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and several aunts and uncles. Jeff was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston and often attended services at the Newman Center on the EIU Campus. He was a music enthusiast who especially enjoyed guitar music and the music of his favorite artist, Jethro Tull. In addition to playing the guitar, Jeff enjoyed biking, bowling and was extremely proud of the engraving skills he had mastered. Jeff was a quiet individual who kept to himself and will be fondly remembered by his family and friends who loved him dearly. Funeral ServiceThe Funeral Liturgy, honoring and celebrating the life of Jeffery Cougill was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Father Braden Maher officiating. Visitation was held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. the evening prior with a Prayer Vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Jim Schnorf served as eulogist and Jeff's mother, Mary Cougill read a poem. Musical selections included ""Amazing Grace"", ""The Lord's Prayer"", and ""Auld Lang Syne"". Burial followed in Roselawn Cemetery - Charleston. Pallbearers were: Jim Schnorf, Marty Schnorf, Rick Choate, Doit Brown, Kenny Baker, Mark Eskew, Jeremy Yost and Rick McClanahan.
