Jeannette N. Hood's Obituary
Jeannette N. Hood, 96, of Ashmore, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Jeannette was born on June 30, 1928, in Indianapolis, IN, to Ray and Cleta (Jackson) Nugent. She married James Russell Hood on January 1, 1948, in Ashmore, IL. Together, they shared more than 50 years of marriage before his passing on September 1, 2002.
Jeannette is survived by her three children: Connie E. (John) Davis of Charleston, IL, Scott L. Hood (Significant Other Judy Ward) of Ashmore, IL, and Robin R. Hood (Significant Other Nancy Hogan) of Sidell, IL; six grandchildren: Amy Evans, Alex Hand, Jamie (De Hill) Drum, Jodie (Tom) Andrys, Cody (Kaycee) Hood, and Betsy (Doug) Flynn; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son, James Ray "Jim" Hood, and was the last surviving of her six siblings.
Jeannette's family moved to Ashmore, IL, where she grew up and graduated from Ashmore High School. After graduation, she married Russell and began raising their family. Jeannette later worked as a secretary at Ashmore School. She was a longtime member of Ashmore Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in the church choir, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Sunshine Class. Jeannette enjoyed crafting, canvas needlepoint, and quilting. She was also a 70-year member of the Eastern Star.
Jeannette deeply loved her husband and family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Ashmore Presbyterian Church, 201 S. Illinois St., Ashmore, IL. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Froeschle officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ashmore Cemetery.
