Jean Richardson's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - L. Jean Richardson, age 91 of Charleston, went to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Adams Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Service, honoring and celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, at the funeral chapel with Pastors Curt Weaver and Tom Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Gifts may be left at the visitation/service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
Jean was born September 6, 1928 in Brocton, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late Bruce and Dorothy (Brown) St. Clair. She married James Richardson on December 23, 1944 in Henderson, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on September 4, 2012. Left to cherish their many fond memories are her children: Linda Norman and husband Keith of Charleston, Jan Hutton and husband Dan of Orange City, Florida, Myron Richardson and wife Pam of Longwood, Florida, and John Clapp and wife Jody of Ft. Worth, Texas; ten grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Watson, Karesa (Joe) Encarnacao, Laura (Eric "EJ") White, Rob (Karen) Hutton, Ryan (Randi) Richardson, Kelsie (Gary) Hunt, Matt Richardson, Drake Clapp, Austen Clapp and Arrick Clapp. She also leaves 18 great-grandchildren, Justin (Lara) Watson, Samantha Watson, Allison (Theran) Reno, Janel (Eric) Luczkiw, Reece Hutton, Maysa Hutton, Kaytlin Encarnacao, Kylie Encarnacao, Kamryn Encarnacao, Jayson Encarnacao, Elena Hunt, Garrett Hunt, Nathan Hunt, Easton Hunt, Holden White, Bennett White, Max Richardson and Jake Richardson; four great-great-grandchildren, Bently Bynum, Grayson Reno, Bryson Reno and Lyden Luczkiw; a brother and sister and their families, Darrell (Lois) St. Clair and Trina (Jeff) Hopper. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry St. Clair.
Prior to her retirement, Jean was employed with Eastern Illinois University in Building Services. Before working at EIU she was employed with Charleston Brown Shoe Company. Jean was a longtime member of the Kickapoo Church and faithfully attended Friendship Baptist Church with family. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Charleston Chapter 1175.
Jean enjoyed spending time solving the daily puzzles in her puzzle books and playing cards or board games with family. For many years she experienced the joys of league bowling and the many friendships it created. She never turned down an opportunity to go shopping but was also content sitting quietly on her porch, watching the activities of the neighborhood. Jean's family appreciated her talents as a marvelous cook and baker and enjoyed many meals and delicious desserts while at her table. It was her family that was her priority in life and which gave her the greatest joys. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will always be remembered and treasured by those who were the recipients of her endless love and devotion.
Funeral Service
The funeral service, honoring and celebrating the life of Jean Richardson, was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Pastors Tom Skinner and Curt Weaver officiating. Pianist, Millie Turner provided the prelude and postlude selections, played a piano solo of "How Great Thou Art" and accompanied vocalist Curt Weaver who sang "Victory in Jesus" and the congregational hymn "Because He Lives". Burial followed at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. Ryan Richardson, Matt Richardson, Rob Hutton, Reece Hutton, Justin Watson and Mike Watson served as pallbearers.
