James E. Salyers' Obituary
ASHMORE, IL - James E. Salyers, age 71 of rural Ashmore, passed away at his home on Monday, January 26, 2015. Memorial Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to a charity of the donor's preference. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Jim was born on September 22, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky, a son of the late Eugene B. and Jennetta Ann (Chestnut) Salyers. He received his Bachelors Degree from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri and his Masters Degree in History from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Jim was an Assistant Professor in the History Department at Eastern Illinois University for 5 years before leaving to pursue other interests. He is survived by his brother, Robert Salyers and his wife Deborah Lukotch of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two nephews, Jeffrey Scott Salyers and wife Jami of Springfield, Missouri and their children, Zachary Scott Salyers and McKenzi Ann Salyers; and Bradley Eugene Salyers and his daughter, Makayla Nicole Salyers of Buffalo, Missouri. Jim had been a lifelong student of History, was an avid reader and loved spending time in research. He was a private individual who preferred a quiet and secluded lifestyle.
