James E. Martin's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - James E. Martin, age 87 of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his Gowin Parc home in Mattoon. In accordance with Jim's wishes his physical body has been gifted to the Anatomical Gift Association for the training of medical personnel and the advancement of medical science through education and research. His request that there be no funeral or memorial services will be honored. Arrangements have been entrusted to Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Jim was born on April 2, 1926 in Watseka, Illinois, the son of the late James P. and Louise (Hawk) Martin. He attended public schools in Watseka and graduated from the University of Illinois with bachelors and masters degrees. He also had advanced coursework towards a doctorate. His employment included teaching at Harvard, Illinois High School, military dependent schools in Korea, Japan and Germany, and a stint with an education association in Hershey, Pennsylvania where he worked at the intersection of Chocolate and Cocoa Streets. He served 24 years (1968-92) as Registrar at Eastern Illinois University. Jim was a patron of the arts and a world traveler.
