James (Jim) "Trigger" M. Trigg's Obituary
James "Jim" Trigg, fondly known as Trigger, age 74, of Lerna IL passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. He was born on May 8, 1949 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Cecil Elias Trigg and Mary Edith (Shade) Trigg. He had been married to Barbara Ellen Flannigan. On May 6, 1988, he married Nancy Lee Ames in Lerna, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy Trigg of Lerna, IL; children, Lisa Fetters of Neoga, IL, Tammy Root (Darren) of Neoga, IL, Kimberly Trigg of Neoga, IL, Barbara Philpott of Toledo, IL, Mark Philpott (Mary) of Lerna, IL, and Joe Philpott (Sarah) of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Garret Fetters, Cody Fetters, Haley Brewster, Lexus Brewster, Maddy Brewster, Dylan Philpott, Devin Philpott (Haleigh), Alex Carter, Autumn Philpott (Ryan Foor), Cole Philpott, Emma Philpott, and Jacob Philpott; great grandchildren, Jace Philpott, Josie Philpott, and Oliver Foor (due in January); siblings Frank Trigg of CO, Noveta Campbell of Decatur, IL, Naomi Henne of Mattoon, IL, Jeannie Hoene of Neoga, IL, John Trigg of Toledo, IL, Joe Trigg of TX, and Jerry Trigg of Effingham, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Dustin Philpott, and siblings, Donny Trigg, Jacob Trigg, Sue Baker, Delbert Trigg, Doval Trigg, and Sheryl McWhorter.
Jim attended Neoga High School. For several years he was an over the road truck driver. He previously worked for Central Illinois Gulf Railroad for many years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, and the Coles County Train Club. He loved to play the guitar and could belt out Johnny Cash songs like no other. Jim enjoyed anything related to being outdoors, whether it be guns, fishing, hunting, or camping. He was also a collector of trains. Jim was also known for buying "junk" and an avid collector of miscellaneous "treasures" throughout the community.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ian Stamps officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, rural Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL.
