Hulon H. ""Rob"" Robertson's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Hulon H. ""Rob"" Robertson, age 83 of Charleston and formerly of Columbia, Missouri, was at home on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 when he went to be with his Creator. A Memorial Service hosted by his family and church family in honor and celebration of his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Old State Road Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) located at 13982 Old State Road, Charleston with Dr. Scott Woolridge officiating. Rob unselfishly gifted his physical body to the Anatomical Gift Association for the training of medical personnel and the advancement of medical science through education and research. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Old State Road Christian Church or to Lincolnland Hospice. The family is being assisted by Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Rob was born on October 26, 1929 in Steens, Mississippi and was one of five children born to the late Homer and Levie (Mordeici) Robertson. He married Reverend Sharon (Magruder) Patton on June 1, 2002 and she survives. He is also survived by daughters, Patricia (Bill) Jones of Syllacauga, AL and Kristi (Darrell) Wooten of Hallsville, MO; sons, Mark Robertson of Centralia, MO and Mike (Julie) Robertson of Columbia, MO; stepchildren, Sherry Patton of Charleston and John Patton also of Columbia; a sister, Joyce (Dan) Salaz of Reno, NV; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Bob and Jimmie Robertson. Rob was a United States Navy Veteran who faithfully served his country during the Korean War. He enjoyed his life-long career of trucking and drove for OTR out of Kansas City, MO and Henry Trucking out of St. Louis. Following his formal retirement Rob remained behind the wheel as a school bus driver for First Student in Columbia. Rob was a member of Old State Road Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and one whose deep and abiding faith served as the foundation for his Christian witness.Rob's sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew him - he loved to hear a good joke and had the ability to never forget a punch line when telling one! He loved sports - in baseball he cheered for the area team nearest to his home; there was no better football team than Alabama; and no better coach than Bear Bryant. He was a huge fan of NASCAR rooting for Carl Edwards who hailed from Columbia, Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart. Due to being ill and the need to stay close to home the past several years he especially enjoyed watching all the wildlife, especially the squirrels and birds which gathered at his home for their regular feedings. Rob will truly be missed by his family and friends but they rejoice in knowing that he is experiencing the wonderful joys of living in his heavenly home.
