Henrietta M. Carroll's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Henrietta Carroll, age 102 of Charleston, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 while at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Arrangements are incomplete. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Henrietta was born on August 15, 1912 in Colfax, Iowa, one of nine children born to the late Henry and Katherine (Schneller) Hoff. She married Wesley Thomas Carroll on April 4, 1936 in Litton, Iowa and they shared 56 years of marriage and friendship prior to his death on December 15, 1992. She is survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer Tresslar and husband Jon of Charleston, Lisa Carroll of Tucson, Arizona and David Carroll and wife Jamie of San Jose, California; six great-grandchildren, Andrew Tresslar, Benjamin Tresslar, Jacob Tresslar and Joshua Tresslar, all of Charleston and Gage Carroll and Gabrielle Carroll of San Jose; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Carroll of Tucson. In addition to her parents, her husband and her eight siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert H. Carroll, M.D. Henrietta was awarded her Bachelors of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska and her Masters Degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She was a devoted elementary school teacher in the Dearborn, Michigan school district for more than 20 years. In her retirement, Henrietta enjoyed shopping and spending time in the kitchen, but her greatest joy was found in spending time with family, especially her great-grandchildren with whom she resided for the last twelve years. Jon, Jennifer, Andrew, Benjamin, Jacob and Joshua received the daily blessings of sharing their home and their lives with a grandmother and great-grandmother who loved them dearly. Her family will always treasure their many fond memories.
