Kitty, as she was affectionately known, was born on January 19, 1940 in Bridgeport, Illinois, a daughter of the late Everett W. and Minnie M. (Doss) Wells. Her first marriage was to Delmar Tewell. She later married Robert Plummer in 1961 and on August 10, 1974 married Lawrence Hughes who preceded her in death on June 1, 2000. She is survived by her loving family; a son, Steve Tewell of Charleston; three granddaughters, Melinda (Mindy) Johns and husband Jarrod of Ashmore, Donya Fulk and husband Donald of Charleston, Jennifer Brown and husband Kaleb of Panama City Beach, Florida; four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Fulk, Donald Fulk, Jr., Nathan Johns and Marisa Johns; five step-children, Clinton Hughes and wife Beth of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Floyd Hughes of Kansas, Illinois, Laura Brewer and husband Terry of Charleston, Arthur Hughes of Martinsville, Illinois, Richard Hughes of Lake Jackson, Texas; two sisters, Madaline Tucker of Flat Rock, Illinois, Kathaleen Harmon and special friend Cletus Oaks of Olney, Illinois; a brother, Sam Wells and wife Carol of DuQuoin, Illinois; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their families. Kitty was also preceded in death by an infant son, James Robert Tewell and a step-granddaughter, Sherilynn Cox. Kitty was previously employed by a local janitorial service but her primary focus in life was creating for her a family a home that was comfortable and full of love. She enjoyed family reunions and holiday celebrations as they allowed her to spend time with her family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. For her family, these get-togethers meant that Kitty was sure to bake her delicious pies that were always in demand. She had a tender heart for animals (of all kinds) and tried to make sure that none were neglected. Kitty will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity.
