Hal R. Ruyle's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Hal Ray Ruyle, age 79, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his rural Charleston home on Friday, April 17, 2015. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, immediately following the visitation, with Pastor Tom Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the family in care of Sharon Ruyle or to Lincolnland Hospice. Gifts may be left on the memorial table during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Hal was born on November 18, 1935 in Roodhouse, Illinois, a son of the late Royal Hal and Frances Eleanor (Florence) Ruyle. He married Sharon (Croy) Marlow on November 23, 1980 in Greenup, Illinois. He is survived by Sharon, his loving wife and best friend of 34 years; their seven children, Michael Ruyle of Mattoon, Melanie Mathews and husband Rod of Casey, IL, Mark Ruyle of Charleston, Kristina Allen and Tom Oakley of Mattoon, Rhonda Budd and husband Larry of Casey, IL, Dayna Schubert of Windsor, IL, David Marlow and wife DeAnn of Greenup; 14 grandchildren, Nikki (Adam) Heltsley, Whitney Mathews, Danny Ruyle, Aaron Edmonds, Morgan Ruyle, Derek Arthur, Kyleigh Arthur, Jordan Allen, Brandon Schubert, Alexis Schubert, Brionna Budd, Jerimyah Budd, Leah (Chris) Tracy and Logan Marlow; 15 great grandchildren, two brothers, Don Devlin and Patrick Devlin; 3 brothers-in-law, Lloyd Croy, Jr., Bill Croy and Alvin Mardis; special friends, Gene Schubert and Rick Allen; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita and Rosie; and two brothers, John and Mike. Hal was a graduate of New Berlin High School in New Berlin, IL and served his country with the United States Air Force. He was manager of the former Deep Rock Service Station in Charleston and was employed as a Building Services Worker with E.I.U. for 10 years. Following his retirement from Eastern he owned and operated a self-employed trucking company which hauled for Fed Ex. As a sports fan, Hal avidly cheered for the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved living in the country and was especially fond of horses. Hal liked to socialize and be around people. His friendly personality and ability to make friends easily resulted in a wealth of friendships. By making family the center of his life Hal and Sharon blended their two families into one and he was a doting grandfather to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hal was blessed with a family who dearly loved him and they will always treasure their many happy memories of family times shared.
