Glenn J. Hild's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Glenn J. Hild, age 66, of Charleston, died at 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a short but brave battle with pancreatic cancer.He is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Kjersten and Marlene, brother Lyle, and mother Mary Hilda. Glenn loved his family and was always devoted, supportive, and present for them. Among his friends and family, he will always be remembered for his postcards, among other things, and his impact on so many was evidenced by the many, many cards, letters, and messages he received in the past months.Glenn served at Eastern Illinois University from 1980-2016. He was a professor of art, Chair of the Art Department, Associate Dean and then Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities. His impact on EIU and commitment to the success of the students and the Art Department is legendary.A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Tarble Arts Center, 2010 9th Street in Charleston. The program will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.Memorial contributions may be made to the Glenn Hild Student Art Gallery Fund, an endowment in the Eastern Illinois University Foundation, to support and develop professional gallery space for exhibition of student work in the EIU Department of Art and Design.
