Frank B. Schmidt, Jr.'s Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Frank B. Schmidt, Jr., age 83 of Charleston and formerly of the Joliet area, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 26, 2016. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Graveside Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Harmony Cemetery located in Cumberland County north of Greenup, IL, with Dr. Bob Swickard officiating. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Wesley United Methodist Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Frank was born at the family farm in White Cloud, Michigan on October 2, 1932 to the late Frank B. and Marie D. (Stankovich) Schmidt, Sr. In his youth he enjoyed the out-of-doors which led to his membership in Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of First Class. As an adult he continued to serve the scouting program as a scout leader. After graduating from White Cloud High School he honorably served his country with the U.S. Army and then went to Michigan State University, from which he graduated. He was an accountant for Caterpillar in Peoria; Grenoble, France; and Joliet. On July 3, 1965 at First Methodist Church in Peoria, he married Ruth Kemper who was formerly from the Casey, Illinois area. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Ruth; one daughter, Sara Schmidt of Charleston; a brother, Carl Schmidt and his wife, Shirley of White Cloud; one nephew and one niece. About ten years ago Frank and Ruth relocated to Charleston to be near Ruth's family. He is a member of Wesley United Methodist Church; the Charleston American Legion Post 93; and a life member of the Institute of Management Accountants. Click to view Frank's memorial video.
