Evelyn was born in Hedrich, Iowa on January 5, 1928, one of ten children born to the late Charles and Lizzie (Adams) Elder. Her first marriage was to Richard Hamner. She later married Prentiss Faw on August 21, 1959 in Kahoka, Missouri. She is survived by Prentiss, her loving and devoted husband of nearly fifty-two years; two sons, Jerry Hamner and wife Stephanie and Chuck Faw, all of Charleston; a daughter, Shirley Eastin and husband Rick of Charleston; two stepdaughters, Luanne Faw-Green of Denton, Texas and Teresa Turner and husband Tony of Lancaster, Texas; nine grandsons; three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren with her ninth expected in January; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a stepson, Gary Faw; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and her six brothers and three sisters. Evelyn was a graduate of Kahoka High School where she earned a letter playing basketball. She was first employed as a waitress but later accepted a clerical position in the County Clerk's office located in the Clark County Courthouse in Kahoka. As a long-time Charleston resident Evelyn was involved in her community as an election judge, an active member of the Ladies Home Extension, held a seat on the American Cancer Society Board, and volunteered numerous hours with the Charleston Lions Club - especially in organizing the Santa Visits during the Christmas season. Evelyn enjoyed watching the various birds which ate from the feeders she always kept filled for them. She also enjoyed bowling but her primary focus in life was her family - they were always her priority. She loved cooking and hosting family get-togethers and birthday celebrations. She never forgot a birthday and believed in making it an extra special day. She was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother and treasured that special relationship she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was truly the matriarch of her family and made her house a home where everyone felt welcomed and loved. Her family has been blessed by her unwavering love and devotion and can appreciate the many wonderful memories which have now become treasures of comfort.
