Rose Evelyn Buckler was born on September 5, 1932 in Ashmore Township, a daughter of the late Cyril and Gladys (Miller) Coartney. She married Jack Buckler in Casey, Illinois on September 4, 1955 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1984. She is survived by a son, Rodney Buckler and a daughter, Patty Watson and husband Bryan, all of Ashmore; 4 grandchildren, Ryan (Crystal) Buckler of Kansas, IL, Darryn (Josie) Buckler of Ashmore, Kristy (T.C.) Grissom of Charleston and Keith Watson of Ashmore; 9 great-grandchildren and another on the way, Braxton, Haylee, Ayden, Scottlynnand Brantley Buckler, Madisyn Watson, Landyn Wilson and Abby and Collin Grissom; a sister, Marsha (Wayne) Lee of Charleston; 2 sisters-in-law, Darlene Coartney of Ashmore and Georgia Coartney of Cape Coral, FL, a brother-in-law, R.C. "Bob" Walters of Ashmore; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Ruth Coartney, an infant son, David Buckler; two brothers, Cyril Dean "Butch" Coartney and her twin, Alvin Coartney; and a sister, Carolyn Walters. Evelyn assisted with Coartney Meat Market, a family owned business in Ashmore, and also helped her husband Jack with his electrical business. She considered herself to be a tomboy and preferred the outdoors so her position as road commissioner for Ashmore Township suited her well. Evelyn was one of only two women holding the title of road commissioner at that time in the State of Illinois. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church and for many years attended First Baptist Church in Ashmore with family. Ebby, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed keeping life simple. Nothing pleased her more than having her family close by. She enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, going to the stock car races with Rodney or to the horse races with friends and family. She also was a Dale Earnhart fan, cheered for her beloved St. Louis Cardinals, and liked to watch a good game of college basketball. Ashmore was her home, its residents were her family and friends, and Ebby loved living there. Many enjoyable hours were spent sitting on the front porch swing in anticipation of visiting with those passing by; and, many memories were created around her kitchen table where there were countless card games played, meals shared, and favorites such as Pepsi and ice-cream or chicken strips served to anxious and waiting grandchildren. Ebby never asked for or required much - just a hug and a kiss from family or a kind word from friends. Many have been blessed through her hospitality and generosity and many fond memories will be forever treasured by those who loved her. A special thank you is extended to those who have served as her caregivers and to the staff at Hilltop for all your comforting care and loving kindesses shown not only to Ebby but to her family as well. You are truly appreciated!Click to view Evelyn's memorial video.
