Erline Fuqua's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - M. Erline Fuqua, age 89 of Charleston, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, Illinois. Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Pastors Scott Sims and Ray Finney officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held this evening (Tuesday) from 5:00 - 7:00 at the funeral chapel. It is requested that memorials in her honor be made to the Central Christian Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.Erline was born November 19, 1921 in Charleston a daughter of the late Roy and Minnie (Furry) Eaton. She married Charles William Fuqua on December 25, 1945 at the First Christian Church in Charleston. They shared thirty-nine years of marriage prior to his death on January 1, 1984. She is survived by her son, Charles William Fuqua II and his wife Ruth Ann of Charleston; two grandchildren, Charles William Fuqua III and his wife Laurel of Charleston and Amanda Sue Wiegand and her husband Michael of Mahomet, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Alex Fuqua and Carlie Fuqua, both of Charleston and Marshal Wiegand, Shepherd Wiegand and Archer Wiegand, all of Mahomet; a sister, Pauline Wendling of California; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, Erline was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Patton; and, a brother, Kenneth Eaton.Erline received her teaching certificate from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College and served thirty-five years as a teacher for the Charleston School District. Most of those years were spent teaching third grade at the Franklin School. She was a woman of steadfast faith and a Charter Member of Central Christian Church in Charleston. She was a regular attendant of Prime Time where she enjoyed the fellowship of other seniors, and was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
