Eleanor M. Rice's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Eleanor M. Rice, age 92 of Charleston, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in the comfort of her Heartland Christian Village home in Neoga. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Chuck Trent officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Eleanor was born February 9, 1924 in Coles County, IL one of three children born to the late Willard and Ruth (Naab) Rosebraugh. She married Kenneth Rice on June 1, 1947 and they shared 37 years of marriage prior to his death on June 8, 1984. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Roger Rice of Charleston, Beverly Harshbarger and husband Robert of Danville, IL, Randy Rice and wife Becky of Charleston and Barb Carr and husband Doug of Greenup, IL; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Rev. Robert Rosebraugh and a sister Carol Bullock. Eleanor was a 1941 graduate of Charleston High School and furthered her education at Eastern Illinois University, where she eventually accepted a position in the payroll department. Prior to her tenure at E.I.U. she was employed at the Charleston Brown Shoe Company, Walker Construction and the Farm Bureau Home Extension Office. Eleanor was affectionately known to family and close friends as Ellie. She was a faithful member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Charleston and was actively involved as church historian, choir member, Sunday School teacher, and served in various other positions. Her interests included sewing and genealogy, playing board games with her family, watching tennis and ball games, especially Chicago Bulls basketball, and BINGO which she learned to enjoy while at Heartland Christian Village. Ellie was proud of her family and they were always her focus and main concern. She provided a warm and loving home for her children and cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
