Edwin Suess, Jr.'s Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Edwin Suess, Jr., age 85, went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 in North Carolina. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church located at 921 Madison Avenue in Charleston with Father Hyland Smith presiding. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the church. Inurnment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the Visitation or Funeral Mass, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Ed was born March 13, 1931 in Grand Fork, IL to the late Edwin and Stella (Marti) Suess, Sr. He married Maxine R. Oary on April 21, 1951 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage prior to her death on December 17, 2013. Left to cherish his memory are two children, Vickie (Tony) Davis of Mt. Airy, NC and David Suess of Paris, IL; two grandchildren, Lisa (Terry) Tilley of Mt. Airy and Shawn Davis and special friend Katalina Eubanks of Belews Creek, NC; a great grandchild, Noah Davis; and a sister, Betty Lang of Highland, IL. Ed faithfully served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a long time member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Charleston and retired from Eastern Illinois University where he worked as a groundskeeper. Ed was a man who put faith and family above all else. His family will always cherish their many fond memories, especially his grandchildren who spent their summers with Ed and Maxine and accompanied them on many camping trips out west.
