Ed was born in Cooks Mills on July 4, 1922, a son of the late James Elmer and Tressie (Wright) Morgan. On July 19, 1945 he was married to his beloved Myrtle Jessie Ward and they shared and celebrated a special bond of love and friendship for nearly forty-five years before her death on July 12, 1990. Surviving are his five children, Jack L. Morgan and wife Judy of Charleston, S. Sue Rhinehart and husband Bill and Loretta M. Robertson and husband Allen, all of Mattoon; Bill E. Morgan and wife Wendy of Sigel, Illinois, and Pamela D. Shore and husband Eddie of Marysville, California; nineteen grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ed was preceded in death by infant twins; a great-grandchild; a brother; and four sisters. Ed proudly served his country as a World War II United States Army Veteran. He was employed with Century Broom Works and Webers Broom Factory, businesses which were located in Mattoon in the 1940's and 1950's. He later worked for various area factories and machine shops before accepting a position at Progress Industries located in Arthur in 1970. Ed was a faithful and devoted member of North Side Baptist Church in Charleston. He was a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and was also a member of the Odd Fellow Rebekah Lodge #704. Ed enjoyed watching TV - especially the old Westerns, Walker Texas Ranger and Wheel of Fortune - and listening to Country and Gospel music. He was an avid fisherman and took pleasure in feeding and watching the birds and squirrels which frequented his abundantly filled feeders. His scooter provided him the independence he treasured and he could often be spotted riding it around town. Ed took great pleasure in helping others and volunteered his time and talents at the VFW, with his church and at the Soup-Kitchen. Ed's family always remained near and dear to his heart. He enjoyed big family gatherings and was always doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren of which he was so proud. Ed was a man of integrity and honesty who was respected and dearly loved by his family and friends.
