E. Ruth Doty's Obituary
CHAMPAIGN, IL - Ruth Doty, age 95 of Champaign and formerly of Charleston, passed away in the comfort of her and her daughter's home on Friday, April 20, 2012. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday (April 25) from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral chapel with Reverend Dr. Thomas Hawkins and Reverend Jan Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to Carle Hospice. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Ruth was born on March 7, 1917 in Silverwood, Indiana and was a daughter of the late O. Ray and Viola (Greeson) Tewell. She married Ernest L. Doty on March 3, 1941 in DeQueen, Arkansas and they celebrated thirty-eight years of marriage prior to his death on November 15, 1979. She is survived by her children, Brian Doty and wife Connie of Charleston and Sue Bennett of Champaign; three grandchildren, Andrea Doty and Brian Doty and his wife Sara, all of Charleston and Allison Doty of Champaign; and a sister, Lois Pierce of Champaign. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Morphy. Ruth was a member of the Loxa Presbyterian Church. She volunteered many hours as a member of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Guild. In 1967 she went to work for Inyart's Shoe Store located on the north side of the Charleston Square and remained there until her retirement. Ruth was a lady who was always fashionably dressed and also wore a smile for her family, her friends and her customers. Ruth's family was her pride and joy and blessed to be her priority in life. They were devoted to her in return and lovingly cared for her during her declining health. They have a treasure chest of memories to cherish and to draw comfort from.
