Dwight D. Kingery's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Dwight Deloy Kingery, age 87 of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Tom Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with Military Honors to be conducted by the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to a charity of the donor's preference. Gifts may be left during the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Dwight was born on July 26, 1927 in Cumberland County, IL, a son of the late Royal and Bonnie (Miller) Kingery. He is survived by a brother, Dale Kingery and wife Pat of Charleston; a sister, Dorcie Chesser of Grand Rapids, MI; several nieces and nephews and their families; and a special friend, Liz Moses and her family. Dwight was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Mink and Lois McGuinn; and an infant brother, Donald Edward Kingery.Dwight served with the United States Army during World War II as a member of the Quarter Master Corps. For many years he worked in the heavy construction business. Dwight was employed by the Illinois Secretary of State's Office as a police officer, a position from which he retired following more than 20 years of service. Dwight was a life member of the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388 and formerly a member of the Charleston Elks B.P.O.E. #623. He was one of the original members of the Charleston Micro Midgets and he helped to build and co-owned the first Charleston drag strip. Dwight had a great sense of humor and always took the time to share it with others through a joke or a humorous story. His love for children enhanced his enjoyment of time spent with his many nieces and nephews and their families. Dwight possessed the qualities of a faithful and valued friend, and his family along with those friends, will always treasure the many happy and memorable times shared.
