Dorothy J. Rodgers' Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Dorothy Rodgers, age 89, joined her husband in their Heavenly Home on Sunday, November 6, 2016 while at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating her life, along with services conducted by the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Mike Southards officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Charleston First Christian Church or to the Harmony Center at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Dorothy was born February 23, 1927 in Thornton, IL, a daughter of the late John and Edith (Carlson) Snowberry. She married Arnold "Gene" Rodgers on March 1, 1945 at the First Christian Church in Clinton, IN and they shared nearly 63 years of marriage and friendship prior to his death on January 3, 2008. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Kirby Rodgers and wife Barbara of Lincoln, IL and Paul (P.J.) Rodgers and wife Gail of Charleston; 8 granddaughters, Holly (Joe) Wiltermood, Melissa (Jamie) Gordon, Sarah (Michael) Howell, Nancy (Ryan) Ervin, Abbie (Dominick) Deluso, Rebecca (Chris) Buntjer, Katie (Darron) Hubbard and Crystal (James) Beech; 12 great-grandchildren, Haley and Josh Wiltermood, Gavin Cain, Hayden Howell, Allen Gordon, Lincoln and Myles Ervin, Amelia Deluso, Margaret Buntjer, Jason, Christopher and Makayla Beech; and her former daughter-in-law, Linda (Chuck) Smith. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son, Allen Rodgers; two grandsons, Josh Hayes and Bobby Gaines; a great-grandson, Pierson James (P.J.) Howell; a daughter-in-law, Judy Rodgers; a brother, Leonard Snowberry; and 3 sisters, Doris Lamb, Mildred Vitaniemi and Margie Russell. Dorothy was the owner/operator of Dorothy's Beauty Shop located in her home for more than 25 years. She has been a long time member of First Christian Church in Charleston, a member of the Women of the Moose Charleston Chapter #1175 and the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy's direct approach to life and always sharing what was on her mind was appreciated by all who knew her as it was never done in a hurtful manner. She loved to laugh and had a way of bringing a smile to those around her as well. She and Gene shared many card games, good times, and infectious laughter with family and friends. They also loved to go dancing, and following retirement looked forward to spending their winters with fellow snowbirds in Mission, TX. Dorothy never missed an opportunity to help in the Rodgers French Fry trailer and for more than 10 years she shared her bubbly and fun loving personality with their many patrons. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose loving memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family.Click to view Family Memorial Videos.
