Dorothy L. Moore's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Dorothy Louise (Hansen) Moore, age 79 of Charleston, left this life on Sunday, March 15, 2015 while in the comfort of her home. There will be no public visitation and private services and inurnment will be held at the Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, Illinois. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Dorothy was born on October 31, 1935 in Chicago, the daughter of the late John Penfield and Grace Elizabeth (Mayo) Hansen. She married Jerold McCormick Moore on December 17, 1954 in Mississippi and they shared 54 happy years together until his death on August 25, 2009. She leaves behind three children, William, Rebecca and John, as well as six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother, John in Philadelphia, and a cousin Irving Hansen in Ohio. She also leaves behind a very special friend and caregiver, Regina Lane. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph. Dorothy led a very full life. She was very active in theater during high school, graduated from the University of Mississippi and earned an additional degree in Theater from Eastern Illinois University. She was also very busy as a mom, den mother, softball coach, Girl Scout leader and cookie mom, and shuttle service. She was an active member of Mensa and enjoyed working in her garden of many diverse and unusual plants. She and Jerry enjoyed scavenging all over the country for items needed to complete their historic house. In later years, she became accomplished in genealogy and traced both sides of her family back to before the Revolutionary War. She loved nothing more than being with her husband, children and menagerie of animals that kept them company. She was immensely proud of her entire family. Dorothy was a woman of integrity and she will be missed.
