Dorothy ""Dotty"" Bingham's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Dorothy "Dotty" Bingham, age 88 of Charleston, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 while a resident at Life's Journey in Mattoon. There will be no public services and inurnment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. It is requested that because of her love for animals, especially dogs, that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Coles County Humane Association. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Dotty was born July 18, 1927 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Oliver Percival and Daisy (Waring) Jones. She married Gerald M. Bingham on September 2, 1950 and they were married nearly 58 years prior to his death on August 15, 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Bingham-Porter and husband Steve and Carolyn Campbell and husband Ken, all of Charleston; 2 grandchildren, Nik Campbell and wife Sarah of Chesterfield, MO and Chris Campbell and wife Casey of O'Fallon, MO; two great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Penelope Campbell; a sister, Jean Dodd of Niagara Falls, Canada; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Douglas Jones; and two sisters, Mae Brideau and Marguerite Stevens. Dotty began working in the field of telephone communications at the age of 16. She was employed by companies such as Bell Telephone and Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company both as an operator and in customer service. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston and formerly belonged to the Women of the Moose Charleston Chapter #1175. Dotty enjoyed all types of craftwork using her skills as a seamstress for various projects. Many years ago she enjoyed league bowling and even in her 80's remained an avid golfer. She enjoyed cooking wonderful meals, both for her family and for others - she loved to entertain. She and Gerald traveled south each year with the other snowbirds, spending enjoyable winters in Lake Whales, FL. Dotty's family will forever treasure their many fond memories.
