Donna Luella Satterfield's Obituary
Alright all you Heavenly Host—you're gonna have to make room for a new recruit in the choir up there! Donna Luella Satterfield, age 86, of Charleston, Illinois, made her joyful journey home on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, Illinois. She’s got her eyes on a seat right next to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, so it’s best if y’all make some room for the new soprano!
Donna was born on March 26, 1939, in Hindsboro, Illinois. On May 27, 1956, she married the love of her life, Johnny Grover Satterfield Sr., in Charleston. They shared 52 beautiful years together before his passing in 2008.
She is survived by her two sons, John Grover (Mary Ann) Satterfield Jr. and Jamie (Peni) Satterfield, both of Lafayette, Indiana; one brother, Benji Rodgers of Oakland, Illinois; eight beloved grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and three very special people who were like her own children—Jessica Villareal, Sueng Ho Yoon, and Bob Lovel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnny, her daughter Delilah "DeAnn" Davis, four brothers, and three sisters.
Donna was a graduate of Charleston High School and a lifelong resident of Coles County. A woman of strong faith and unwavering devotion, she was a longtime member of University Baptist Church, where she joyfully served as choir director. She also held the same role at the church in Rardin, Illinois. Donna and her late husband were actively involved with the Rardin Baptist Mission from 1972 to 1977.
Donna had a heart for hospitality, opening her home and heart to international students through Eastern Illinois University’s host program. She and her family were honored with a plaque recognizing their commitment to fostering those friendships.
She was a gifted singer, a fabulous cook, and an avid rose gardener who loved nothing more than spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always full of music, laughter, and the kind of love that makes you feel like you belong.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, Illinois. Her funeral service will follow on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the same location, with Pastor Kevin Lasley officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to EIU Chi Alpha, PO Box 858, Maryville, IL 62062.
