Donna L. Higa's Obituary
ASHMORE, IL - Donna Lee Higa, age 69 of Ashmore, Illinois, passed away at the home of her daughter on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral chapel with Pastor Jerry Sweeney officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that memorial gifts in her honor be made to the Tri County Community Church or the Ashmore Food Pantry. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Donna was born on May 24, 1942 in Seven Hickory Township, Coles County, Illinois. She is the daughter of Herman and Verna (Bloxom) Cassiday. Donna is survived by her four children, Stephen Higa and wife Lori of West Dundee, Illinois, Brian Higa of Elgin, Illinois, Angela Spencer and husband William of Ashmore and Ken Higa and wife Crystle of Hampshire, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Kenny Higa, Alysha Spencer, Alexa Higa, Mikka Spencer, Xavier Higa, Kalia, Higa, Kali Higa and Hannah Spencer; her mother, Verna Cassiday of Ashmore, two brothers, Dale Cassiday and wife Luann of Ashmore and Jay Cassiday and his wife Barb of Kansas; two sisters, Wanita Hubbard and husband Noel of Indiana and Gayla Robinson and husband Steve of Ashmore; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother, Gary Cassiday and an infant brother, Ricky Cassiday. Donna attended the Tri County Community Church in Ashmore and for more than twenty years has been a familiar voice at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center as a switchboard operator. Donna had a quiet and unassuming nature and a smile that was warm and genuine. Family was always a priority for her and she adored her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Donna leaves a legacy of love for her family who are blessed with many fond memories of special times shared.
