Donald W. Hutton's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Donald W. Hutton, age 84, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Arthur Home in Arthur, Illinois from the effects of pancreatic cancer. Graveside Memorial Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. Masonic Services will also be conducted at that time by members and guests of Charleston Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M. There will be no Visitation and the family requests that casual attire be worn to the Graveside Service. It is requested that in lieu of flowers that memorials in his honor be made to a charity of the donor's preference or to the non-profit Arthur Home. Gifts may be left at the Graveside Services or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Don was born December 11, 1926 near Humboldt, Illinois a son of the late Bunda R. and Hallie (Gwin) Hutton. He married Marjorie Tefft on December 30, 1947 and they had two children; a daughter, Gayle E. Adkins and a son, Donald ""Pete"" Hutton, II. Don was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, who passed away April 9, 1991; their daughter, Gayle; a granddaughter, Paige E. Martinez; a brother, Charles R. Hutton; and a sister, Monna J. Epperson. Don is survived by his son, Donald ""Pete"" Hutton, II and his wife Pam of rural Sullivan, Illinois; two grandchildren, Shannon Hill and husband Matt and Brooke Adkins and his wife Sabrina, all of Ashland, Ohio; three step-grandchildren, Jeff Smith of Nokomis, Illinois, Shelly Forys and husband Kevin of Greenville, Illinois and Stephanie Birckbichler and husband Greg of Mattoon; five great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Don was a 1943 graduate of Mattoon High School and received a Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1948. He served in the United States Navy for two years and was a World War II Veteran. His association with the Reasor Corporation began in 1950 and he enjoyed a working relationship which continued for thirty-four years. He retired as President of the Reasor Corporation in 1984. During his working years Don was a member of numerous professional organizations. He was a member of the Charleston Elks B.P.O.E. #623, the Charleston Masonic Lodge #35, A.F. & A.M., the Charleston Country Club and the Charleston Rotary Club. He served as past president of the Charleston Hospital Board and the E.I.U. Alumni Association; and, was a past director of the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce. During his twenty-seven years of retirement, Don relished the time he spent with Pete and Pam, his grandchildren and his extended family.
