CHARLESTON, IL - Donald V. "Don" Hickenbottom, age 80 of Charleston passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at SarahBushLincolnHealthCenter. Graveside Services celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at MoundCemetery in Charleston with Reverend Adrian Lamkin officiating. In lieu of flowers Don's family requests that memorial gifts in his honor be made to Adams Funeral Chapel - a special fund for his family. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee, Charleston, IL61920.Don was born on May 1, 1933 in Coles County, Illinois, the thirteenth child of Hugh and Della (Neer) Hickenbottom. He married Ruth Biggs on March 20, 1952 and they have shared sixty-two years of marriage and friendship. In addition to Ruth, he is survived by three loving and devoted children, Donna Eagleton and her husband Tod of Erie, Pennsylvania, Jim Hickenbottom and his wife JoEllen of Charleston and Sara Conley and her husband Stu of Fayetteville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Bradley McDonald and his wife Linda, Jeremy Hickenbottom and his wife Laura, Jason Hickenbottom and his wife Meagan and Emma Conley; four great-grandchildren, Teja, Brianna, Brooklyn and Quintin; one brother, Art Hickenbottom of Charleston. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by eight brothers and three sisters.Don will be remembered as a quality builder. Prior to Don & Ruth starting Hickenbottom Construction and Landscape Company, he was employed for several years by the Reasor Corporation. Don and his company developed and built many fine homes in Charleston, their reputation for quality & integrity was instrumental in their expanded success throughout the Central Illinois area. Don was a man whose family always came first, one whose many friendships were treasured and one blessed with professional success.
