Donald R. Farber's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Donald Robert Farber, age 60 of Charleston, was called to his Heavenly Home by his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 17, 2015 while at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A Memorial Service, honoring and celebrating his life, will be held at Noon on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 902 Cleveland Avenue in Charleston with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10:30 until service time. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to International Student Ministry or to Debi Farber to be used for final and future expenses. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Donald was born on August 10, 1954 in St. Louis, MO, a son of Russell and Helen (Hansman) Farber. He married Deborah Trebelhorn on June 9, 1979 in Blue Island, IL. He is survived by Debi, his loving and devoted wife of 35 years; 2 sons, Nathaniel Farber of Fayetteville, AR and Caleb Farber of Charleston; 2 brothers, Ralph (JoAnn) Farber of Evansville, IN and Ron Farber of Hazelwood, MO; a sister, Dianne (Jerry) Johnson of Dittmer, MO; 2 brothers-in-law, Tom (Mary Kay) Trebelhorn of San Diego, CA and Rich (Claudia) Trebelhorn of Chesterfield, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his and Debi's parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Farber and a sister-in-law, Janet Farber. Donald was a graduate of Hazelwood High School and continued his education at Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State University) where he received his Bachelors Degree. Don was currently teaching at the Spanish Lake Facility in the St. Louis area for the State of Missouri Division of Youth Services. Previously Don and Debi had owned and operated a ServiceMaster Franchise in the Effingham and Charleston areas for 20 years. Don was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston where he actively led Bible Study and fellowship groups and was founder and sponsor of the International Student Ministry program. Don's life was a witness to his Christian faith and he was blessed with a servant's heart. He had a desire to always help others and his life radiated kindness and generosity. He worked hard in providing for his family and was a loving and devoted husband to Debi and a loving and attentive father and wonderful role model for his sons, Nate and Caleb. He loved the outdoors, traveling and vacationing with his family, and sports, always cheering for his favorite St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Missouri Tigers ball teams. Don's love for others was genuine and he enhanced the lives of those he met in a positive and encouraging manner. He will always be lovingly and affectionately remembered and the many memories of him will be forever cherished by his family, his students and colleagues, and his many friends.Click to view Don's memorial video.
