Donald W. ""Donnie"" Clapp's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Donald William Clapp, age 84 of the Ashmore and Westfield areas, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 while a patient at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday morning, October 2, 2013 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. A Graveside Service honoring and celebrating his life will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Omer Cemetery located north of Ashmore, Illinois with Phil Tribby officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the St. Omer Cemetery or to a charity of the donor's preference. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Donnie was born on July 19, 1929 in Ashmore, Illinois, a son of the late Charley and Helen (Prince) Clapp. He is survived by a brother, Luther Clapp of Casey, Illinois; three sisters, Wanda Warpenburg of Charleston, Barbra Adams and husband Jesse of Arcola, Illinois and Winnie Holle and husband Wayne of Oakland, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Clapp and Darrell ""Doc"" Clapp. Donnie served with the United States Army and was a decorated United States Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Donnie, along with his brother ""Doc"", owned and operated Clapp Brothers, a successful heavy equipment company located in Westfield. Donnie was a quiet individual who truly possessed a kind and caring heart. He was never known to utter unkind words about others and did not approve of anyone else doing so either. He believed in a hard day's work and knew the importance of family - he appreciated his brothers and sisters, their families and the close relationships they maintained. Donnie will be truly missed by the family he was blessed to be a part of.
