Dixie J. Dunning's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Dixie J. Dunning, age 54 of Charleston, entered her Heavenly Home on Monday, November 14, 2016 while a patient at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Her family requests that you join them for a Celebration of Life gathering to be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 from Noon until 3:00 p.m. at the Charleston Elks Club located at 720 6th Street in Charleston. A private inurnment and committal of her cremated body will take place at a later time in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in her honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter. Gifts may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Dixie was born April 5, 1962 in Charleston, IL to the late Richard O. Combs and Shirley J. (Newell) Toops. She married David L. Dunning on May 18, 2002 in Charleston and he survives. In addition to her husband, left to cherish her memory are two children, Shannon Wheeler and wife Jamie and Shantha Shepard and husband Tyler, all of Kansas, IL; two stepsons, Nick Dunning of Mattoon and David Dunning of Charleston; 5 grandchildren, Denim and Archer Wheeler, and Maddi, Luke and Katie Shepard; a step-grandchild, Kaylee Dunning; two sisters, Debbie Bosler of Charleston and Shirley Pate of Wisconsin; her brother, Quincy Combs of Charleston; her former stepmother, Marsha Combs-Skinner; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Addis. Dixie attended Charleston High School and furthered her education at Lake Land College where she earned an Associate's Degree in Agriculture. She was formerly employed with E.I.U. in dining services. Dixie was a loving and compassionate individual who excelled in taking care of others. She enjoyed nature and was a lover of all animals. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
