David A. Bradley's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - David Allen Bradley, age 71 of Charleston passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Masonic Rites conducted by members and guests of Hutton Masonic Lodge #698 beginning at 6:45 p.m. A Memorial Graveside Service honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, with Military Rites conducted by the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and the Charleston American Legion Post 93 combined honor guard. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 Honor Guard, or the Hutton Masonic Lodge #698. Gifts may be left at the visitation or service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.Dave was born December 22, 1946 in Charleston, Illinois, to the late Cyril Edward "Ted" and Dorothy Ellen (Hudson) Bradley. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Brad Allen Bradley and wife Joan of Phoenix, Arizona and "his girls" , Jessaca Plank and husband Duane, Jodie Madlem, Nickie Madlem - Easterday and husband Chad, all of Charleston, and Jennifer Pichette and husband Paul of Menominee, Michigan; grandchildren, Paige, Mason, Payten, Alexis, Keegan, Raegin, Rylie, Chloe, Evan, and Scarlett; his brothers, Bill (Mary) Bradley of Charleston and Don (Stephanie) Bradley of Arizona; a sister, Shirley (Randy) Taylor of Virginia; nieces and nephews and their families including, Ed (Amy) Corbin, Ellene (Larry) Santrock, Melissa (John) Hurst, Kelly (Dennis) Lynch and Doug (Dianna) Taylor, as well as a great friend, Dave Finley. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded by a sister Peggy Corbin and a brother, Randy Bradley.Dave grew up in Charleston and was a 1966 graduate of Charleston High School. He joined the Army after high school and Sgt. Bradley honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge Dave returned to Charleston and was employed in the maintenance department at Eastern Illinois University for over 29 years. He was a devoted member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and was a previous Post Commander. Dave took pride in serving on the Honor Guard and the military services offered to all veterans. He was also a member of the Hutton Masonic Lodge #698 and a past member of the Ansar Shrine.Dave was a great person to be around and always had a smile on his face. He never knew the meaning of the word "stranger" and was appreciated for his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed road trips with friends, and never missed a Saturday breakfast with his grandson, Mason. He looked forward to visits with his son and family in Phoenix. Dave was truly a great man and loving father, and will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.Click to view Family Memorial Video.Graveside ServiceThe Graveside Service celebrating the life of Dave Bradley was held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Roselawn Cemetery with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Musical selections included ""That's My Job"", ""One More Day"", ""Forever and Ever, Amen"", ""Unchained Melody"" and ""A Love Without End, Amen"". Military Honors were conducted by members of the combined honor guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and Charleston American Legion Post 93. Participating were: Phil Kerz, Detail Commander; Dale Downs, Chaplain; Chet Campbell, Bugler; John Gelb and Lyle Myers, Color Guard; Hugh Birch, Butch Jenkins, Mike Zimmerle, and Darrell Nees, Color Bearers; and Max Carpenter, John Richardson, Paul Buerster, Gary Grounds, Dave Finley, Rod Franklin and Eugene Winnett, Riflemen. Flag detail was provided by the Illinois National Guard Military Funeral Detail, Decatur, Illinois.Masonic Services were conducted at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 by members and guests of Hutton Masonic Lodge #698. Those leading the service were Mark Jenkins, Worshipful Master; Darrell Cox, Chaplain; and Jim Pearcy, Secretary.
