Dale G. Keown's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Dale George Keown, age 90, entered his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the funeral chapel with Pastors Tim Oakley and Virgil Baker officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and Charleston American Legion Post 93 combined Honor Guard will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, thoughtful donations in his honor be made to Lincolnland Hospice or to a church or charity of the donor's preference. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Dale, along with his twin brother, Gale, was born January 7, 1926 to the late Homer F. and Vera (Ward) Keown. He married Irene A. Bowman in Shelbyville, IL on July 27, 1947 and they were married 49 years prior to her death on September 29, 1996. Dale is survived by their children, Carl Franklin "Frank" Keown and wife Karen, Brian Dale Keown and wife Melodie, all of Charleston, and Vera Elizabeth "Beth" Scism and husband Bruce of Danville, Virginia; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His twin brother, Gale and wife Esther of Tennessee and brother Harold Keown of Decatur, IL also survive. On May 19, 1997, Dale and Pat J. Rich were united in marriage in Las Vegas, NV. Dale leaves his loving wife of 19 years and her family; a daughter, Paula J. Huddlestun, 2 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, Dale was predeceased by a brother, Robert Keown. Dale was a World War II United States Navy Veteran, honorably and proudly serving his country. He served in the Asian Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS Dawson (APA-79) as an amphibious boat driver landing troops and transporting supplies overseas in the Philippines and Japan. Following his discharge, he began a 36 year employment with the Reasor Corporation; first as a draftsman, followed by 10 years as Production Manager, and retired in 1987 as Sales Supervisor. Dale's love for his Lord and Savior created a passion for sharing his faith with others. Dale was a faithful member of North Side Baptist Church where he served as Assistant Pastor for several years. He was a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592; served as President of the Charleston Kiwanis in 1965 which was their Golden Anniversary year; and was instrumental in starting the Circle K Club at Eastern Illinois University. Dale's hobbies included bowling and water skiing, as well as other activities that allowed him to enjoy the outdoors. For many years he was extremely involved with the Run For Your Life Program. But it was Dale's sense of humor and infectious smile that drew you to him. He loved his family and enjoyed answering to the many endearing names his grandchildren had for him such as "Big Papa" , "Gramps" or "Poppy Dale" .
