Clancy Pfeiffer's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Clarence E. Pfeiffer, age 83 of Charleston, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 while at his Arbor Rose Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the funeral chapel with Pastor Tom Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston School District's Helping Hands who provide assistance for our district's students in need. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Clarence, affectionately and better known to all as Clancy, was born July 13, 1933 in Rardin, IL. He was one of three children born to the late Clayton and Catherine (Kimball) Pfeiffer. He married Betty Joan Bell on June 28, 1952 in Covington, IN and for the next 59 years she remained his wife, his best friend and the love of his life. Betty preceded him in death on November 8, 2011. He was also preceded by two grandchildren, Gregg Pfeiffer and Becky Easterday along with his brother, Johnny Pfeiffer and sister, Margaret Rowe. Those left to cherish their many fond memories are his 5 children, Steven Pfeiffer, Chris Pfeiffer and wife Patricia all of Charleston, Christy Hudson and husband Roger of Oakland, IL, Patsy Easterday and husband Steve, and Julie Butler and husband Chris, all of Charleston; his 16 grandchildren, Spencer Pfeiffer, Chris (Bobbi) Richardson, Lisa (Jacob "Bub" ) McMechan, Lindsey (Aaron) Hite, Crystal (David) Pearcy, Brittany (Mark) McGrath, Angela (Chris) Grary, James (Janet) Hudson, Shannon Eastin and boyfriend Justin, Justin (Kelsie) Hudson, Mandy (Craig) Bisby, Patrick (Jenna) Easterday, Amy (Eric) Scott, Shane Butler and fiancé Shanna, Jessica (Nathan) Stollard and Cody (Keisha) Butler; 33 great-grandchildren with another on the way, 5 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family members. Clancy was a 1951 graduate of Charleston High School. He held several odd jobs following high school and in 1963 he became an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company, a position he held for 6 years and one which created the opportunity for his next career move with the Darrell Eaton Insurance Agency. Clancy not only was employed there for nearly 20 years but established a life-long friend as the two entertained the Charleston Community for many, many years with their antics and humor. After the agency closed Clancy worked for the Illinois Secretary of State and was a bailiff at the Coles County Courthouse. Clancy's love for Charleston and his tremendous devotion to the people who live in it was the driving force behind his involvement in the community. He thought the best people in the world lived in Charleston and that it was a great place to raise a family. He believed it was his civic duty to give back and supported and enhanced the lives of his fellow residents in a multitude of different areas. He served in the Charleston city government for 8 years, 6 of those years as a City Commissioner and 2 years as Mayor pro tem. He chaired the Meals on Wheels program, volunteered with the Bloodmobile and was involved with numerous charitable organizations. He took a special interest in youth activities and served as a Little League coach, umpired games and was the broadcasting voice of Charleston Trojan football and basketball games for 11 years. He was thrilled when he received the honor as Tournament Manager for the Charleston Holiday Tournament. He was a member of numerous organizations which included the Charleston Rotary Club, Elks B.P.O.E. #623 and Moose Lodge #1388. He was also a member of the Charleston Country Club where he enjoyed an occasional game of golf and was a longtime member and deacon of First Christian Church. He was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Chicago Bears football.
