Claire E. Krukenberg's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Claire E. Krukenberg, age71 of Charleston, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011 at his home. Memorial Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Friday, June 24, 2011 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. Visitation will be held this morning from 10:00 until Service time. Services will also be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Emerald Township, rural Blue Earth, Minnesota on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Wes Hafner officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Church Cemetery. It is requested that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the E.I.U. Department of Mathematics Scholarship Fund, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston or the National Wildlife Foundation. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Claire was born on September 16, 1939 in Blue Earth, Minnesota the son of the late Emil and Laura (Weiss) Krukenberg. He is survived by his children, a daughter, Kristin Krukenberg of Boston, Massachusetts and a son, Kurt Krukenberg and his wife Charu Ramaprasad of San Jose, California; and a sister, Elaine Schroeder, and her husband Harold of Blue Earth, and their family. From 1968 until his retirement in 2006, Dr. Krukenberg served as a Professor in the Math Department at Eastern Illinois University and also served as its Chair. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charleston and served on the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM). Claire was an avid bridge player and played with several clubs. For many years he was a familiar face on the soccer field as he was a referee for the youth soccer program in Charleston. He also enjoyed fishing and looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Canada with friends. He dearly loved Kristin, Kurt and Charu and always remained one they could go to for devoted encouragement and support.
