Cindy was born on April 2, 1958 in Charleston, a daughter of Myron Rex and Betty (Abernathy) Lawyer. She is survived by her mother, Betty Cooley of Stronghurst, Illinois; two stepsisters, Mary June Anderson and Peggy (Cooley) Wood; a great-aunt, Viola (Harvey) Ramsey of Hartford, Illinois; several special aunts and uncles and their families, including Mary (Dick) Ashmore, Nancy (Ed) Hudson and Paul Abernathy, all of Charleston, Sammy Abernathy of Minnesota, Ormond (Jo) Perry, Jr. of California and Mick (Barb) Lawyer of Neoga, Illinois; and several dear cousins and their families including, Jeff (Ellen) Ashmore, Jana Ashmore, Doug Black, and Marvin (Carrie) Abernathy, Jr. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Marion Cooley; a sister, Angela Fitzgerald; two uncles, Otto Abernathy and Marvin "Abbie" Abernathy, Sr.; and a cousin, Mary Kay Drake. Cindy was a 1976 graduate of Charleston High School. For more than 20 years she has been a devoted and helpful sales associate and a familiar face at the Charleston Wal-Mart Store where she was in charge of the rollback pricing and clearance merchandise. Cindy loved being outside. Outdoor activities such as fishing, mushroom hunting or just taking a walk were among some of her favorite things to do. She enjoyed shopping (especially with Aunt Mary) and candles were one of her favorite things to buy - her home always contained the aroma of a most recent purchase. She was also quite the TV buff and whenever her Uncle Dick wanted to know what was on and when, he would call his personal "TV Guide" . She was a lover of dogs and especially fond of her current canine friend, Jia. Cindy dearly appreciated her family and friends and she was blessed with an extremely close relationship with her aunts, uncles and cousins. Most of her outings and activities included them and she currently made her home with Aunt Nancy and Uncle Ed. They were also the recipients of her teasing which was reflective of her fun-loving nature. Cindy will truly be missed but her family, friends and co-workers will always treasure their many fond memories.
