Cheryl was born September 23, 1957, in Charleston, Illinois, the daughter of the late Floyd G. and Doris June (Richie) Cox Malcom. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Mick Cox and wife Marcia of Collinsville, IL and formerly of Charleston; a nephew, Brandon Cox, wife Staci and their children Jackson and Griffin, of Woodstock, GA; a niece, Emily Kobler, husband Bill and their children, Addie and Callie of Troy, IL; her aunt, Wilma Richie of Charleston; several cousins; and close friends, Carolyn and Debbie Smitley and Lisa Ebel. Cheryl was a 1975 graduate of Charleston High School and following graduation she began employment with the Charleston National Bank in the bookkeeping department. At the age of 23 Cheryl was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In spite of the adversity of the diagnosis and extensive treatment she later achieved her Associate Degree from Lake Land College as well as a Bachelors Degree from Eastern Illinois University. During her time at E.I.U. she was a dedicated intern with the activities programs of various area nursing homes which she so enjoyed. Cheryl was also a receptionist for Bob Oetting and Associates Insurance Agency until her declining health no longer permitted her to work. Cheryl was baptized into the Lutheran faith. For many years she was an avid bowler with a local bowling league and volunteered with the American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics program. Traveling was always on her agenda and two of her more memorable excursions were to West Coast and Washington D.C. - but a short trip to the local Dairy Queen was also to her liking. Cheryl was also an avid fan of the Peanuts Comic Strip characters with Snoopy being her favorite. Her love for animals, especially dogs, began as a youngster growing up on the family farm located southeast of Charleston where she loved taking care of the farm animals. Cheryl appreciated and possessed a sarcastic sense of humor which she enjoyed sharing with everyone, especially her brother, Mick. Cheryl will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Click to view Family Memorial Video.
