Cheryl was born on November 11, 1947 in Charleston, the daughter of the late Kenneth C. and Frances (Reddicks) Hughes. She married Richard E. Helton on November 28, 1980 and they have shared 33 years of marriage and friendship. In addition to her loving husband Rich, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Lisa Stout and husband Phil of rural Charleston; four grandchildren, Robynn Foster and Dillon Foster, both of Goreville, Illinois, Dalton Stout of rural Charleston, and Jacob Helton of Bourbonnais, Illinois; a brother, Charles Hughes and wife Jeri of Charleston; a nephew, Brendan Hughes of Denver, Colorado; an aunt, Joan Reddicks and cousins, Mike (Mary) Reddicks and Tim Reddicks; her mother-in-law, Evelyn Helton of Charleston and her extended Helton family whom she dearly loved. In addition to her parents Cheryl was preceded by a stepson, David Helton and her uncle, Russell Reddicks. Cheryl was a Charleston High School graduate ""Class of 65"" and attended Eastern Illinois University for two years. She was employed at King's Bookstore and Hickman Ford before taking a position with Moore Business Forms where she worked for 23 years. Following its closing she spent the next 12 years as a billing clerk for Coles-Moultrie Electric Cooperative located in Mattoon before retiring. Cheryl was a faithful member of North Side Baptist Church where she enjoyed working with the children and especially liked helping with the Vacation Bible School Program. She was also a member of the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Mattoon American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and formerly a member of the Charleston Business and Professional Women's Organization. Cheryl was gifted with an artistic ability and enjoyed a variety of crafts including various types of needlework and scrapbooking - all of her grandchildren along with other family members have received scrapbooks lovingly designed especially for them. Her friendships were important and she maintained close ties with her classmates attending their Wednesday breakfast get-togethers at What's Cookin' and sharing her Tuesday evenings playing cards with the girls. Cheryl's family was definitely her priority in life and always placed their needs first. She was generous, thoughtful and considerate of others and was quick to make certain that everyone else was taken care of. Cheryl was without a doubt a devoted and loving wife, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and the many fond memories of special times shared will always be treasured by the family and friends who dearly loved her.Click to view Family Memorial Video.
