Charles S. Walters' Obituary
ASHMORE, IL - Charles S. "Bucket" Walters, age 81 of Ashmore, Illinois, went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, April 2, 2018 while at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Ashmore Baptist Church, 104 West Walnut in Ashmore, Illinois. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church with Pastors Tom Skinner and David Colvin officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashmore Cemetery, Ashmore. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Ashmore Baptist Church or to Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Gifts may be left at the visitation or service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.Charles was born May 9, 1936 in Coles County, Illinois to the late Buel S. and Geraldine (Guyette) Walters and since the age of 10 months was raised by his grandparents, Alva and Rachel Walters. He married Luwaunna Rose Simpson on August 20, 1954in Casey, Illinois. He is survived by Rose, his loving and devoted wife of 63 years; three sons, Monty Ray Walters and wife Connie, Mark Douglas Walters and wife Dana, and Christopher Neal Walters and wife Judy, all of Ashmore; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Walters of Charleston; nine grandchildren, Jason (Betsy) Walters, Alisha (Tony) Birch, Heather (Adam) Cassady, Brent (Mandi) Walters, Donald (Sarah) Walters, Matt (Ali) Walters; Kathleen (Teddy) Rachar, Kyle Walters and Tori (Dustin) Campbell; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert (Kay) Walters of Mattoon and Gary Walters of Cisco, Illinois; two sisters, Norma (Jim) Schnell and Helen (Jim) Ayres, all of Mattoon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and grandparents he was preceded in death by a son, Rick Walters; a sister, Bev Smock and a great-granddaughter, Paightin Abigil Simpson.Charlie was a carpenter by trade and co-owned and operated Walters Construction with his son Chris for more than 20 years. As a long time member of the Carpenters Union Local #347 he also worked on buildings located on the E.I.U. Campus and owned and operated Walters Furniture Stripping and Refinishing. As a faithful and longtime member of Ashmore Baptist Church, Charlie used his carpentry skills to assist with building projects throughout the years. Charlie and Rose shared their love for camping with family and friends and numerous memories of wonderful times spent at their camper and around the campfire can be recalled by many. Charlie had a special fondness for all animals, especially dogs and horses. He was quite the equestrian and was exceptionally good at training horses. Many know Charlie as "Bucket" a nickname given to him as a young lad. If you were fortunate enough to be acquainted with Bucket Walters you know that one of the things he enjoyed most in life was a good laugh and bringing joy and laughter to others through his humor. Charlie loved his family dearly and they loved him as well. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered with love, affection and a smile.Click to view Family Memorial Video.Funeral ServiceThe funeral service for Charlie ""Bucket"" Walters was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Ashmore Baptist Church with Pastors Tom Skinner and David Colvin officiating. Charlie's son, Mark Walters gave the eulogy. Pianist, Rachel Warfel provided the prelude and postlude music and also sang ""Touring The City"". Mr. Jim Hinchee, vocalist and guitarist sang ""When the Wagon Was New"". A recorded selection of ""Long Black Train"" was also played. Burial followed in the Ashmore Cemetery. Charlie's grandchildren served as pallbearers: Jason Walters, Alisha Birch, Heather Cassady, Brent Walters, Donald Walters, Matt Walters, Kathleen Rachar, Kyle Walters and Tori Campbell. His brothers were named as honorary pallbearers: Mike Walters, Al Walters and Gary Walters.
