Charles Robert ""Bob"" Tuggle's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Charles Robert Tuggle, age 80 of Charleston and formerly of Paxton, Illinois passed away while at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until noon at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Memorial Services honoring and celebrating his life will be held at the funeral chapel at Noon, immediately following the visitation with Pastor Rich Knofsky officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. Following the service friends are invited to join with Bob's family at the Brick House Bar and Grill for refreshments. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Rossville Historical and Genealogical Society. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or service or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Bob was born on February 26, 1934 in Rossville, Illinois, the twelfth of fifteen children of the late Ed and Josephine (Brown) Tuggle. He was united in marriage to Bonita Smith on May 18, 1957 and they just celebrated 57 years of marriage and friendship. In addition to his wife Bonnie of Charleston, Bob is survived by a son, Art Tuggle and wife Carrie of Bartlett, Illinois, three grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan and Kelly Anne Tuggle; three sisters, Grace Karrick and Ann Sawyer of Florida and Helen Acord of Danville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Tuggle, Jr. and eleven siblings. Bob was a graduate of Rossville High School. Following high school he served with the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. He attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and received his Masters Degree in 1973 from Bemidji State University in Minnesota. Bob taught Industrial Technology and coached many sports during his teaching career. He was employed by the Paxton School District in Paxton, Illinois at the time of his retirement. Bob was a life time member of the Rossville Historical and Genealogy Society and a life member of both the American Legion Post 733 in Rossville and the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592. Bob was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching football and especially his favorite Chicago Bears. Bob was a knowledgeable individual who was well thought of and respected. He was easy to talk with, possessed a great sense of humor, and never met a stranger. Bob always enjoyed beginning his day by sharing an early morning cup of coffee and conversations with his friends at McDonalds. Bob was a well respected teacher and coach and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He touched the lives of many in such positive and memorable ways and will always be lovingly remembered.
