Charles "Russ" Russell Warner's Obituary
Charles "Russell" Warner, lovingly known as Russ, age 83, of Charleston, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Charles was born May 17, 1941 in rural Casey, Illinois, the son of Glen and Juanita (Williams) Warner.
He grew up in rural Clark County and graduated from Charleston High School in 1959. After high school, he married his first wife and together they started their family in Westfield, IL, where Russ owned and operated Warner's Garage. Known for its slogan, "Don't Cuss, Call Russ," the business became a local favorite.
After his first marriage ended, Russ relocated to Orlando, FL, where he worked as a Master Technician for Bridgestone/Firestone. It was in Orlando that he met and later married his current wife, Linda Peavy, on April 4, 1992. Following his retirement from Firestone, Russ worked part-time at Disney and a local funeral home in Ocala, FL. In 2022, he and Linda moved back to Charleston, IL.
Russ enjoyed a full life and had many hobbies, including playing golf with friends, watching NASCAR, playing cards, and camping with his family. He loved to travel and was known for his captivating storytelling. In his younger years, Russ served as an EMT in Westfield and enjoyed racing his race car.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years Linda M. Warner of Charleston, IL; three children, Tammy L. (Douglas) Simpson of Charleston, IL, Debbie D. (Jim) Endsley of Charleston, IL, and Charles R. "Chuck" (Audrey) Warner of Sherman, TX; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Mattie) Endsley, Allison (Caleb) Bertrand, Brandon Warner, Chase (Alexandria) Warner, Ellie Warner, Hannah (Brandon) Beem, and Alex Walker; two step-grandchildren, Kelly (Todd) Davis and Nate (Kelli) Simpson; and three great-grandchildren, Paisley Winn, Emmy Beem, and Barrett Beem. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Amy D. Warner; one grandson, Kyle Newell; his parents, Glen and Juanita Warner; three siblings, Raymond Warner, Paul Warner, and Patsy Billingsley; and his first wife, Linda Warner.
A Celebration of Life for Russ will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Charleston VFW, 1821 20th Street in Charleston, IL.
