Charles E. ""Chick"" Debault's Obituary
CHARLESTON, IL - Charles E. "Chick" Debault, age 98 of Charleston, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with services for a departed Lion to be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Central Christian Church located at 915 West Lincoln Avenue in Charleston with Pastor Doug Krukewitt and Pastor John Reside officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Mattoon VFW Post 4325 will follow in Janesville Cemetery. It is requested that thoughtful donations in his honor be made to the Charleston Lions Club or to the Mason Civic Center. Gifts may be left on the memorial table at the visitation or services, or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920. Chick, as he was affectionately known, was born September 24, 1918 in Stewardson, IL to the late Charles A. and Emma (Cain) Debault. At age 10 his parents moved their family to a farm near Mason, IL. Following high school he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, first in Wisconsin for 8 months, then near Joliet, IL for 18 months. Chick proudly and honorably served his country during WWII with the United States Army. Three of his four years of service were spent overseas. He was awarded the distinguished and respected Purple Heart Medal and honored with a Citation for his service at the Battle of the Bulge with the 87th Infantry Division of Patton's 3rd Army. Chick was a field engineer with Oliver Farm Equipment in Battle Creek, MI for 16 years prior to his employment with Columbia Machine in Mattoon, IL, where he was employed for 27 years in production control. He was a Charter Member of Central Christian Church in Charleston; a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592; a member of the Mattoon American Legion Post 88; and a longtime and active member of the Charleston Lions Club. Chick was a league bowler and held the high series record for many years. He took pride in his home and great pleasure in the bountiful vegetable gardens he tended. He dearly loved his restored 1946 Chevy pickup truck which he often entered in antique car shows, and generously offered to WWII Veterans and Lions Club members for use in area parades. Chick was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who will now be cheering for a World Series win from his Heavenly Home. Chick loved his family dearly and left to cherish his memory are his children, Lance Debault of Henderson, NV, Kent (Wilma) Debault of Sevierville, TN and Evon (Gaylord) Boyer of Battle Creek, MI; 13 grandchildren, Tracy, Charles, Andrea, Cynthia, Eric, Sheila, Sandra, Derek, Deanna, Daniel, Denise, Donna, and Terry; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Ann) Debault of Port Charlotte, FL. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by the following wives, Betty, Mary, Louise and Elaine; a daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Frank Bridges; 2 brothers, Delmar and Doyle Debault; and 4 sisters, Olive Debault, Lucille Krumerich, Opal Rexroad and Norma Daniels.Click to view Family Memorial Video.
