She was an instructor in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences at Eastern Illinois University where she was a positive influence and role model for 20 years. Following her retirement from E.I.U. she joined the staff of Wesley United Methodist Church and was currently serving as their Director of Visitation. Carolyn was a woman who lived her faith and taught by example. She was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston and was actively involved in its ministries. She taught youth Sunday School classes, was a founding member of the Parables Sunday School class; and was a Stephen minister. She was a member of E.I.U. Carolyn enjoyed the many evenings spent with her Bunco pals, was an amazing cook, and created and decorated the most beautiful cakes. Carolyn's independent nature and love for others served as a great foundation in her ability to not only identify a need but to offer a solution. She established and facilitated two groups for those who were widowed, and was director for the Elderhostel program through E.I.U. Her admirable qualities of selflessness and patience coupled with her spirit of hospitality and unconditional love, acceptance and friendship was extended to everyone - it was never discriminatory. She possessed an inner strength and was one that many depended and relied upon - she was their rock! Carolyn enjoyed her grandchildren immensely - she was always attentive to their every need and made herself available to them night and day. She was blessed with a brilliant and creative mind which is mirrored through each of her children - their lives reflect the best of her. Carolyn made this world a better place through her positive encouragement in the lives of her students and the many ways in which she touched the hearts of family and friends through her joyous spirit and loving kindness. She will truly be missed but forever lovingly remembered. Click to view Family Memorial Video.
