Carol Stewart's Obituary
Carol Stewart, age 86, of Charleston, IL passed away at 6:32 a.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Cumberland Rehabilitation and Health Care in Greenup, IL. Born on October 29, 1937, in Ashmore, IL, Carol was the cherished daughter of Clifford Leo and Averil Ione (Miner) Sanderson. She found her lifelong love in Robert Harold Stewart, whom she married on July 14, 1957, in Charleston, IL.
Carol is survived by her sons: Bryan (Kim), Dan (Julie), Greg (Kelly), Curt, and Trevor (Bethany) Stewart, all of Charleston, IL, along with her 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Linda Sawyer.
A graduate of Charleston High School, Carol embarked on a diverse career journey, leaving a lasting impact wherever she went. From her days at the original Burger King in Charleston, IL, to her time at Ronnie Lanman Insurance, Dixie Cream Donuts, and the records office of the administration building at Eastern Illinois University, Carol's dedication shone through.
Carol was a devout member of the Salisbury Church in Hutton, IL. She found joy in coaching softball and immersing herself in the world of sports, especially with her boys. In their younger years, she and her husband found joy in spending Friday nights bowling and playing cards. A lover of literature, Carol could often be found with a book in hand, capturing precious moments through her camera lens, typically aimed at her grandchildren, listening to her favorite singer, Elvis Presley, or indulging her family with her culinary creations, especially her famous Jello cars and delectable sweets. Her passion for writing culminated in the heartwarming book "My Fab Five," a testament to her boundless love for her boys. Her annual trips to Jonesboro, AR, with her dear friend Cheryl Boehmer, were treasured highlights, brimming with laughter and shared memories.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Salisbury Church with Pastor Michael Stewart officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at Salisbury Church, 2190 Co. Hwy. 5, Charleston, IL 61920. Interment will follow services at Salisbury Cemetery.
